"Clothing has a language all on its own"
Rochelle BlackbeardDesigner and Dressmaker
I grew up as a busy, sporty girly girl that was always busy with something. I spent a lot of time in my mom’s sewing room, always making cute items and having fun with fabric. I found a way to balance serious times and fun times and those time-management skills have stuck with me to this day.
My gran taught me how to sew when I was 16, so I was always designing and making different items to sell. The first top I ever made was a two tone Thai Silk number that I ended up making more of because I sold the first one.
Soon it became clear to me that my passion for sewing, designing and dress making should become my business. So I created Roch Designs when I was 19. I have done courses in pattern making and finishing, and with over 10 years’ experience I am able to make dresses that not only fit well but look stunning too.
Ladies today want to express their individuality and my ability to transform fabric into clothing inspires me more everyday, as clothing has a language all on its own.
